It was before year 2000, when my little daughter was just 2 years old
. Like every doting parent, we dreamed of giving her the best, and of course, toys were always part of that dream
. Her most desired one — a shiny little cycle!
But her dad, being the careful chooser he is, kept postponing it — “Let’s check one more shop,” he would say
. We did a few rounds of window shopping and came back empty-handed each time, not realizing our tiny tot’s wish was growing stronger with every passing visit
.
One weekend, we went on a long drive in our mini-scooter
— my husband riding, me as the pillion, and our daughter snugly sitting on my lap. The front space was filled with her snacks, food, and a tiny pair of clothes

.
As we neared Ameerpet, Hyderabad, a street full of cycle stores, I quickly whispered to my husband to stay alert
. Just then, she spotted the colorful cycles and began shouting in her cute, high-pitched voice —
“Daddy, Cycle! Daddy, Cycle! Daddy, Cycle!”

Her dad sped up a little, and the faster he rode, the faster she shouted — “Daaaaddy, Cycleeee!”
The whole scene was hilarious — her excitement rising, his speed increasing, and me holding her tightly, laughing uncontrollably!
That day still makes me giggle whenever I recall it.
A few days later, we finally brought home her dream cycle
. Her eyes sparkled with pure joy
. And then came the funniest surprise — she ran to the cycle, tilted it sideways, and tried to start it with an imaginary key, just like her dad did with the scooter!

That moment made us realize — our tiny girl wasn’t just cute, she was super observant and incredibly smart!
